CNCKing.com Review October/November 2012

Spent the past few days getting all my ducks in order and have launched a new rewards program on CKCKing.com that gives you rewards towards free things on partner sites just for visiting us! How cool is that! Like the job board, this is a test I’ll run for the next few months – if it’s positive, it will stay, if not, move-onto something else.

Server and backup stability have been greatly enhanced as well as realtime chatting – expect to see a lot more of me on this site answering your questions as you shop around. Overall, CNCKing.com transition/migration has been a great success and things are rebounding nicely – bright future ahead for sure!

I’ll be launching a new laser cut project with some really cool engraving shortly so watch for that from a new designer joining the site and I figure another day or two, our first CNC plasma file and designer too!

I didn’t have a chance to post a review of October due to the massive amount of work I had to do and rebranding I had to focus on so I’ll bunch it up with November now that things are finally ALL DONE.

October / November Happenings

• Launched some new CNC/Laser projects including my Mangonel B, Abascus B redesign and Cement Truck (David Newman’s)
• Launched some new 3D printer projects including Bathsheba’s 6-Unit Gyroid and Mobius,
• Beta Ressourcen out of Germany linked to us!
• Gave an update for my newest book, Volume 4: Rise of the CNC Machines and decided to crowd fund it for fun.
• Wrote a little about the traffic I was getting from around the world including some interesting youtube statistics and the differences between Plasma Cutting and Laser Cutting (with a minor in CNC table routing).
• I got back into the design game MYSELF with the Eiffel Tower Starting and Update.
• Updated a bunch of 3D assembly animations including lots of bird things, Pen and Pencil Holder (with launch of +CUBE), Bus.
• Took video of my Sydney Harbor Bridge being cut at Evright.com.
• Became a proud sponsor of the EngraverRegister.com.
• Wrote about my production experience with HowToChinese.com helping CNCKing.com.
• Job Control X on a Trotec Laser Speedy 400 coming to CNCKing.com!

Biggest news was the end of WoodMarvels.com – 4 years in the making it was time for a seismic shakeup! It involved a new domain, ISP, FaceBook account, major optimization and switching everything to the cloud (only finished a few days ago) and a host of other headaches including manual migration of everything across two sites into one.

First design was Utzi’s Slice Chair, followed with models by Jerry, Phil, David, Stephane then my books and other designers. I then started adding my designs along with Bill Young’s really cool Sheter 2.0 before calling the official transition from WoodMarvels.com done.

Not fun but very happy to have it behind me now! The site is way faster, distributed, stable and social including a job board, Google+.
