WoodMarvels.com Site Upgrades

I’m usually so deep in the world of 3D that I usually take for granted that the way I display things at WoodMarvels.com is fine. I got an e-mail yesterday from a frustrated visitor who found my site to be anything but easy to use so I asked him “what do you suggest?” The answer I got was a few pages long with lots of very good information as to how I can improve the user experience at my site.

Major site changes include:

  • I now have “shop by _” in the headings
  • I added “Popular Search Terms” as a heading (I didn’t even know I had this feature until he told me it should be more prominent)
  • Changed “Corporate” to “About”
  • Updated the home page picture (hadn’t done that since April of 2009!)
  • Adding popular headings under the home page picture instead of links to the blog right away
  • … and a bunch of other little tweeks here and there.

I want to give a very special thinks to Michael Reilly of Artifacture Studios for his advice, his company specializes in short run manufacturing, custom fabrication, laser die cutting, and technical design services. I think the website is much better now! Don’t be surprised if you see that really cool Eiffel Tower for sale at WoodMarvels.com very soon either 😉
