Stilzkin Bridge Launcher

I’ve enjoyed watching Bridge Launchers since I was a kid… usually attached to a tank, they are the ultimate in flexibility, strength and usefulness that seem to get too little attention in my mind. Without these machines, many wars would have been lost or at least troop movements being greatly hampered.

Here are some cool videos I found that show how these machines work so you can see the different ways they go about bridging gaps.

Future plans

I have a few other models I want to design before I jump into the design of a working aircraft carrier and so far, I’ve been avoiding the use of wooden gears for various reasons. I think I can design something like this using elastic bands and manually turn-able knobs but it is something I’m investigating closely. It depends on what system I think is easiest to make functional using only a 2D wood surface and glue.

So far, I’ve built two tanks at WoodMarvels.com and they are like night and day design wise.
