Mars Explorer: Behind the scenes design process

Lots of storage!

The Mars Explorer was a fun project I gave to myself as a way to generate more interest in my science fiction book – 2847 A.D.: Solar Horizons which is also available on Amazon.com and WoodMarvels.com… sales of that haven’t been where they should be so there is a lot of room for growth there. I noticed after that I promoted the wrong book at the end of the animation but no worries… I will just design another model. Worse comes to worse, people buy my WoodMarvels.com Volume II.

Looking back at this design process, it looks like I had the design pretty much down from the start – the way I design is always the wheels first THEN I think of what kind of vehicle would look cool on it then the environment. For instance, Mars has lots of loose sand so small wheels would get stuck but the gravity is half that of Earth so you can get away with with a heavier model. If you are traveling around on the Martian planet, you want to be able to swivel the cockpit to view the amazing sights and if you pick anything up along the way, a good storage bed in the back would come in handy as well!

I don’t normally have a concrete idea of what I’m doing until I start doing it… like you saw with the Medieval Castle’s evolution… I went through several ideas before I stuck to one and developed it.
