Kangaroo Shelf: CNC Router & Laser Project Launch!
The largest Kangaroo Shelf I’ve ever made… this is a lifesized shelf that holds more stuff than a real kangaroo and although this version probably tastes awful (I love eating kangaroo meat), well worth the time to cut and build with your CNC table router or laser cutter!
I was honestly surprised at how few pieces I managed to make this project… the completed 28 piece model dimensions @ 6 mm (1/4 inch) thick material, L: 470 W: 500 H: 1140 (mm) or L: 18-1⁄2 W: 19-11⁄16 H: 44-7⁄8 (in).
You can find this project right now at CNCKing.com under either the CNC laser or table router sections under household.
I really encourage you to view the video of me building this project out… it’s very straight forward and a lot of fun – I used MDF which is HORRIBLE MATERIAL to cut with a router… gave me a headache for three days… so I’m sticking to plywood from now on.

What I especially like about making this with my table router is how “cheap” it is to cut and build a project of this scale… it requires two full sheets of material at 6 mm which is easy to find and that cost me about 40$ in MDF (plywood is double that) and I have something that’s more beautiful, functional and unique than anything I can buy at the store. I had this all done in a few hours as well… quicker than going to the store and having to pick from a limited selections.
This is the power of design mixed with CNC machines… you really can build just about anything better, faster and at a far higher quality than anything found in stores. I get bored walking in furniture stores to be honest, everything looks the same as one finds something that sells and the other copy. Innovation? Gone… just the same old cookie-cutter stuff out of China or India… even that Italian furniture looks like everything else out there except they put a bit of leather on it and triple the price.
For me… I’m sticking to CNCKing.com designs for my whole house… we need something, I’ll drum-up the designs and cut and build it myself! It’s the ultimate in custom and all possible thanks to these amazing CNC machines.
I still need a few more shelves here so I’ll drum-up some more designs… it’s great to build something that I get to use around the house!
This project can also be cut wonderfully in other materials, next shelf I make will be plywood but I can just as easily cut it using softwood (pine), hardwood (oak) or even plastics like acrylic… as long as it’s 6mm… everything will work 100% perfect!
