6mm Baliste Medieval Siege Weapon: Under 13 minutes laser cutting time!

Thanks to a partnership with Trotec Laser Australia – I’ve been able to get my hands on their Trotec JobControl X which allows me to preview the cutting and engraving times of the projects found on CNCKing.com. Today’s model review is the Baliste Medieval Siege Weapon cut out of 6mm plywood using an 80 watt Trotec Speedy 400. I could have chosen any machine from their line but I really like the entire design and capabilities of the Trotec Speedy 400.

As you can see, it takes just under 13 minutes to cut this project – there is some room for further optimization which could bring this down further but all things considered, way faster than cutting it with a manual saw anytime with the added benefit of no sanding! The entire model consists of 64 pieces with the finished dimensions once all put together of L: 29cm, W: 23cm, H: 10cm – using 6mm thick material.

Here is the 3D assembly animation to show you how it all goes together and you can find this model on CNCKing.com under Laser Cutter Projects / Medieval.

I do plan on making a CNC table router version of this model with my awesome ShopBot Desktop very soon at about double or triple the scale as I just enjoy making bigger rather than smaller things but it will require quite a few modifications to work properly. Of course, this can also be made to be 3D printed AND plasma cut… waterjet etc… it never really ends! This is both the pleasure and burden of these technologies, what you can create is anything but we are always bound by our mortal coils that can come unwound anytime so you got to pick your battles and how best to utilize the short time we have!
