Visiting 3D Systems Corporation

Earlier in the week, I had the great pleasure to spend TWO days at 3D Systems looking at the various 3D printing technologies they have on offer, getting first-hand experience with the process and learning a heck of a lot of knowledge from their 3D printing gurus. If you aren’t familiar with 3D Systems NOW… you will be!

3DMarvels.com has been hamstring for quite a while due to one big problem… I can’t test the models that designers from around the world send to me so that means, they need to test and send me pictures of their 3D marvel before I can add it to 3DMarvels.com. With my other site, WoodMarvels.com, if there is a defect, it’s only 6mm wood that can be easily re-cut and fixed but with 3D printing, the whole model, several hours of time and very expensive material gets thrown-out. I just can’t risk selling models that “might” work… they MUST work.

The cost of 3D printing is very high but decreasing rapidly… so what I’m looking at acquiring is a ZPrinter® 250 Professional 3D Printer… it offers COLOR 3D printing and the perfect build size and medium for this site to grow and prosper exponentially.

I really wish I could simply use a cheap extruding machine such as their Cube or what Botmill has to offer to build this site up but it doesn’t offer the resolution and more importantly, ability to have moving parts with support material for the truly magnificent models I want to have on this site or that others are sending my way. There is no way around it for the time being… ZPrinters are the way to go for my application!
