Upcoming CNC Laser and Table Router Projects
Many people ask me how I get inspired to make projects here on CNCKing.com – it’s easy for me… I see something or imagine it and I just have to make it in real life! I’m about to embark on two projects which I want to document on this blog similar to what I did with my laser cut Eiffel Tower and laser –> Table Router conversion of my Sydney Harbour Bridge.
CNC Table Router Project: Adult Crane
I saw this and told myself I want one! Luckily for me, I have a ShopBot Desktop and thanks to my indexing experience with my Sydney Harbour Bridge (last blog article about it coming in a few days) I’m confident I can make this! Mine will require no exterior hardware like chains, castor wheels but will need rope and I want to have a bit more play in the arm so it can move around a bit more. The biggest challenge of this project? Getting the spinning action via petals working… the rest is child’s play!
CNC Laser Cutter Project: London Tower Bridge
I’ve been wanting to make a laser model of this bridge for a while, time to put my head into some virtual pixels and make it happen! Of course, I want the bridge. Like my Eiffel Tower… I’m going to make it at least a meter long but the challenge here will be figuring-out what details to keep and which to throw away as I build this out of 4mm thick material.
Switch Around
Somebody might ask me why I don’t build the London Tower Bridge to be a CNC table router project and the adult crane to be laser cut… very good question! The adult crane has lots of cutting… which costs a fortune on a laser cutter while for the London Tower Bridge, I’m dealing with resolution issues… I could make a router version of it later but I don’t want to make any design compromises to account for a round bit but using 4mm laser means I could sale it up to use 6mm THEN it would most likely be very ShopBot CNC Table Router friendly!
As of this writing, I haven’t started by-the-way… this will be a “real-time” build so I have no idea how it will go… that’s part of the fun!
