Trotec Speedy 400 flexx: Unpacking & Set-up (soon)

Things are slowly getting set-up in the shop with the regular headaches… the good news is the Trotec Speedy 400 flexx looks awesome, the bad news is I have to rewire the house as there isn’t enough juice to run both a shop and a house on the same set of circuit boards.

There is still a lot of clean-up to be done so here are some pictures of the unpacking of this awesome CNC laser! What you see below is the rotary kit and in the bigger box the Trotec Speedy 400 flexx with a professional cutting table, vacuum table and a gas kit… yep, this will run off an external industrial compressor! This is a temporary set-up as I’ll be moving out in less than a year… this garage will be too small very soon!

The crate was 450 kg, the challenge wasn’t the unpacking, but getting it off the skid without access to a forklift!

The Trotec Speedy 400 flexx was very well packed, not a dent, mark or scratch anywhere… wished I could say the same about my luggage after traveling for the past 7 years all over the place! I love the heavy lid on this – the flexx needs this as it has both a CO2 and a Fiber laser source – looks like something that belongs in a Transformers movie!

Using some boards and leverage, my father and I lifted a side then with a crowbar, removed the underpinning wood that just elevated the Trotec Laser Speedy 400 flexx enough so the wheels couldn’t touch the bottom of the skid. Once both underpinnings were removed, we created a ramp and rolled it off the skid – the side panels were arrange to form a ramp and it rolled beautifully!

As for extraction, I got a 2HP dust collector – this is when I realized that the garage needed at least two 220V plugs that weren’t there.

I also contacted ShopBot Tools to ask about my ShopBot Desktop (North American standards converted to Australian power standards) and asked if I could just plug-in a 220V to get that rolling – they said YEP. So, now I need 3 x 220V and I might as well get another 3 x 110V all set-up on a breaker in the garage while I’m at it. Who knows what else I’ll drag in there especially with the new production lights I bought!

cncking books

I also received a new shipment of my latest books – they have become quite popular as select door prizes and it’s a great intro to give to potential customers and partners! I figure in a week things should be ready for an official launch… just today I finished setting-up my industrial workstation so I can now design again!
