Stegosaur Twins: Laser Cut in 3:24 minutes on a 80W Trotec Speedy 400

Yep, if you want to cut the Stegosaurus Twins available on CNCKing.com under Trotec Laser / It’s Alive! you are looking at three and a half minutes of cutting time if you are fortunate enough to use an 80 watt Trotec Speedy 400! Oh yeah, that’s not just one Stegosaurus by the way, it’s TWO!

Each Stegosaur laser cut 13 piece model has dimensions of L: 265 W: 40 H: 85 (mm) L: 10-7⁄16 W: 1-37⁄64 H: 3-11⁄32 (in) when cut using 6mm (15⁄64 inch) thick wood. This is one of my benchmark models by the way, when ever I try a new machine, it’s either this laser cut stegosaur, a CNC table router stegosaur version or when I get my 3D printer – a 3D printed version. The reason is simple, this model is incredibly easy to build and if there are any issues with the machine – this outlines them perfectly as it has both square and round edges, long and thin and thick pieces, inner pockets etc.

I’ve included both the 3D assembly animation of this laser cut model and a CNC table router version that I cut and assembled below – although that version wasn’t tested in Trotec’s JobControlX – it could just as easily be made with it without any modifications to the native file! The wonders of CNC technology!
