Sony (through YouTube.com) said I violated music copyright?
I got an interesting msg today from YouTube – apparently Sony believes that I am infringing on their copyright with the music from one of my videos and the example they used sounds NOTHING like mine. The joys of copyright infringement algorithms I guess. Give it a listen yourself.

How do I know I’m not infringing on Sony’s music?
Believe it or not, I composed the music to ALL WoodMarvels.com and 3DMarvels.com videos – if you hear music, I made it for just that video using Sony Music Studio. I bought many GBs of loops and have been using them since the inception of both companies. I enjoy music, it’s a fun way to take a break from the 3D animation and filming – that I also do myself. Because I have all the files – any dispute is very easy to demonstrate and prove – if I grabbed music from the internet, then I’d be screwing myself and the company into being sued into oblivion. Do everything yourself, then no problems dealing with copyright and other infringing activities.
Update
I have now received this e-mail from Sony
Dear i3ds,
Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society has reviewed your dispute and released its copyright claim on your video, “ShopBot’ing a CNC Straddle Carrier B: Proof of Concept”. For more information, please visit your Copyright Notice page
Sincerely,

UPDATE 1
A few days after YouTube accepted my copyright claim another frivolous claim was made on the same video… this time it was
“Heaven”, musical composition administered by: Warner Chappell
Your video “ShopBot’ing a CNC Straddle Carrier B: Proof of Concept”, may have content that is owned or licensed by Warner Chappell and Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society,
a song I can’t even find on YouTube, without any proof offered or given – shouldn’t you at least offer PROOF before making a claim? Sooooo… went through the same process again… and now these guys rejected my claim and have reinstated their claim on MY music. Again, no proof given so I have to send an e-mail to YouTube asking them who are these guys, where is their proof and please make them go away.
I’m getting tired of this – their system is flawed. At the very least, PROOF should be given and moreso, what they need is a PERSON listening to these BEFORE sending these stupid e-mails out. If somebody sends a claim without merit, have them send me a few thousand dollars for my time so they think about it more next time. Right now, there are NO consequences and all the onus is on ME without any proof.
I then fill-out even more forms telling YouTube that I designed everything they see in the video, filmed it myself and did the music for and then they turn-around and send me the same form yet again.
UPDATE 2
I sent my e-mail to youtube (the one they give on their website for such complaints) and the response I get back is

So, mystery robot with mystery song says I infringed on their copyright which I dispute and have no recourse at all because YouTube doesn’t know what a phone is much less how to answer an e-mail. My e-mail was plain text??? Of course, they don’t give an e-mail address OR other way to contact them (the form they suggest doesn’t go to a form, but a generic Q/A system managed by other YouTube users).
The joys of dealing with the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and their global mindless robot affiliates!
Update 3
My only recourse to get a hold of somebody at YouTube is to join their forum “creators corner” and stick my complaint in there – the answer I got was
You would need to get in touch with the claimant directly. Sorry, but this is a dispute between you and them, and YouTube cannot help you.
So, this baseless claim stands without any proof. At least now there is proof about my disputed claim so nobody can say I did nothing.
Why do I care?
The issue here is bigger than one claimant – if I don’t do anything, I’m essentially accepting guilt for something I didn’t do, this can range from having my videos muted to having my YouTube account deleted in its entirety – so each one of these I have to fight and waste time on. Robots talking to robots, and I’m the only human in the middle with common sense.
There needs to be some consequences for these frivolous random claims on YouTube (and other sites on the net)… right now, it’s all one sided.
