Back in 1994, Ted Hall, the founder of ShopBot Tools out of North Carolina (USA), created a revolutionary new tool out of his frustration to find an affordable CNC tool to cut plywood panels for his boat.

Why are CNCs so important?

I really love CNCs… they have more power than most “power tools” and repeatability and precision that’s unmatched. If you want to cut a thousand widgets, CNC is the only way to go as – first to last – the widgets will be identical!

The precision of these machines are down to a fraction of an inch as well, this is great when you need to create projects that you want to just slot together without having to use nails, screws or any other hardware – the way I love to design!

In fact, CNC designs are so powerful that really, if you design things right, you don’t even need any glue to keep a project together!
