Optimizing EPS files to other board sizes
As you may have noticed, I’ve optimized the EPS files on this site to generally fit either 18.4cm square, 38.4cm square or 38.4cmx 79cm. The main reason for this is because our laser cutting supplier, Ponoko, uses these sizes.
I do of course realize that other laser cutters have different board sizes, so if you wish to have something optimized at a different size, 50cm x 50cm for instance – the easiest thing to do is to ask me to do it for you. Another option, if you wish, is to simply scale down the drawings using Adobe Illustrator or even Inkscape (or Corel) to use a thinner board. A thinner board means more designs can fit on a given surface… which also makes cutting and their associated costs proportionally smaller as well.
There are exceptions though, some models are optimized to go all the way across 79cm so it’s always a good idea to ask before making your purchase. Just letting customers know that if they have any special requests – I’m here to help fulfill them as much as possible. The contact link is on every page of WoodMarvels.com for a reason 😉
Baliste Update
I’m also done producing a Baliste Siege Weapon, I discovered a design flaw while the animation was rendering (another great reason to make those assembly animations) that required a little redesigning. Apparently, extending the catapult screwed-up the spacing between the mast and support “rods” causing one to dive into the other.
I’ll be changing pace once this guy is done rendering over the next few days… time to get out of the ancient and more into the modern 🙂
PS: This is also a test post to give the WordPress new thumbnail feature a try… if you visit http://blog.woodmarvels.com – you now see the picture justified to the right of the text on the home page… wonderful!
