Laser Cutting & Sand Blasting a Merry Christmas Text Tree

David Newman, a designer here on CNCKing.com made a wonderful Merry Christmas Text Tree a while back and since we are in the season, and my laser wanted something unique to cut. I decided to give his fantastic design a go on a piece of ammo crate Pine.

Now, sand blasting wood isn’t anything new, it’s how lots of signs were made before lasers and routers came onto the scene, but they can’t engrave through wood like a laser can or cut it as accurately.

I’ve documented the process in a lot more detail over at my CNCROi.com blog, the article will come out in a few days from now but I think the video above does a very good recap of the process start to finish. It was cut using our Trotec Speedy 400 flexx Austrian laser using our CO2 tube exclusively (we also have a fiber under the hood).
