Iris Box: 3D Printer File Launch!

This 3D printable Iris Box makes for a wonderful mechanical related 3D project.

This is a really neat iris box that is 95% printable with your 3D printer… only the 5 screws needed must be sourced locally though I don’t see a reason why that can’t be printed as well in titanium.

What I really liked about this design by Matt, our newest collaboration designer on 3DMarvels.com is the simple twisting mechanism that controls the irises. This is a wonderful project that everybody with a 3D printer should seriously consider giving a try, it will teach you mechanics, the importance of tolerances and the possibilities that exist with 3D printing. Of course, if you design something really cool – be sure to send me a heads-up as well!

I have to say that the detail of this model really made the 3D printing animation I produced for it really stand-out. Not sure why but the mesh was especially easily to work with.
