CNCKing.com: The Wikipedia Page that just can’t happen

Over a year ago I decided to create a Wikipedia entry for WoodMarvels.com (now CNCKing.com) and do as I want, it just won’t work – seems the people just don’t see any value in what I do and don’t consider a “blog” a legit source so the article is dead in the water. Lots of people don’t get what I do so I’m not worried about it but it does bother me that people use their position to hold others back to feel good about themselves. There are TONS of Wikipedia entries that are highly questionable, apparently, mine is far too questionable to make it past the censors.

You can see my “lost” Wikipedia entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/WoodMarvels.com (copy of what’s below) along with all the notes – just replace WoodMarvels.com with CNCKing.com and add in a year of evolution and you get the hint of what’s to come! If they won’t publish my Wikipedia file, I can do it here!

WoodMarvels.com

WoodMarvels.com is a company that was started in 2008 with the focus of promoting digital distributed manufacturing processes using wood as its primary medium. WoodMarvels.com also published three books to help spread the message about what is possible using these methods.[1]

The site merges technologies from several unrelated fields and brings them into the traditional woodworking. Industrial 3D animation software is used to showcase the product within a 3D environment. Power and hand tools are replaced with computer controlled CNC Router and laser cutting for dramatically increased precision. [2] Traditional printed and mailed large-format blueprints are replaced with downloadable PDFs while digital files are simply inputted into the computer for instant cutting instead of templating-roughing-cutting processes. Traditional step-by-step sketches are replaced with modern 3D animations showing assembly without the use of any measurements or any words, so they can be assembled regardless of any language barriers. [3]

Another unique aspect of the company is the use of virtual modeling for research and development, which allows the quick creation of working and tested models without the traditional cut/assemble (with associated wood waste) brought upon by traditional woodworking methods. This has dramatically increased production capabilities.[4]

WoodMarvels.com has taken a unique approach to the woodworking field, as a result, the founder, Jon Cantin, has been mentioned in articles from Inc. Magazine [5]to the Toronto Globe and Mail and one of it’s products, it’s wooden Mars Rover, got mentioned by the actual NASA Mars Rover driver. [6] [7]

The company has established key partnerships with the world’s recognized laser cutting machine manufacturer, Trotec in Austria and CNC routers, ShopBot Tools Inc. based out of the United States.

CNCKing.com

CNCKing.com was formed when WoodMarvels.com and 3DMarvels.com merged into a single entity in November 2012 to take advantage of new opportunities in the CNC marketplace – it has since continued to grow in reach and influence!
