CNCKing.com Review: April 2013
This month I really started pushing hard on video once more after one year “break” – this opened up a new bottle neck for me – I can only upload 2-7GB of video a day and for me, that’s easily produced when you have 1080HD as your standard so this month, I have to find a smarter way of getting all these things up on youtube and a few other sites. The month of April was a blur, so much done on so many fronts! I hope May can be equally as productive!
April 2013 Happenings
- As part of my goal to bring more knowledge about CNCs in general, I was lucky enough to interview James, Marketing Director at Epilog, Michael, Founder of B9 Creator and Brian, Founder of Red Lion Design Studio (a bloody amazing toy designer)
- A number of testimonials came to light including Kazuo’s acrylic laser cut Eiffel Tower, and an amazing testimonial picture from Ivan with his cool CNC routed Mangonel B Siege Weapon. Not to be outdone, Chris made a full-sized version using his Aristomat GL 2032-8!
- On the 3D printing front, my first design was featured in 3D System’s Cubify newsletter going-out to 100K people! My 3D printed pyramid was a test and the Cube cleared it with flying colors… which I later laser engraved as a test using Evright.com while they featured my Sydney Harbor Bridge.
- Grant made an amazing stop motion of his really cool Mr. Coffy 3D printer project which he also released.
- I did a guest post on Engraver’s Register giving some details about the Sydney Anzac War Monument I made a laser version of a few years back (time flies!) and was featured as a 3D printer resource by CreativeBloq with Michael cool Mars Rover 3D printer project.
- Did a job preview using Trotec’s JobControlX software of my Egyptian Pyramid Calendar.
- I really like sharing insights that I’ve learned along the way so I wrote a bit about why it’s important to own your own IP, the demise of “FREE” as a business plan, my happiness of my failed Indiegogo campaign, generating more sales, hiring your next boss, the trouble I’ve been having with Wikipedia, my concept of selling through education and how FaceBook Sucks! Oh yeah… SUPPORT MATERIAL SUCKS too!
- Simon Moore, the Director of Trotec Australia sent me an AMAZING picture of my laser cut (thanks David Newman of Blue Tongue Engraving) Eiffel Tower and Ferris Wheel B.
- Released a new laser cut project by David that just about anybody can cut on just about any laser machine, his “I Love Mum variations“.
- Released a new 3D printed model thanks to Noe’s amazing Mayan inspired designs… there are another 3 in queue but I was sick for the past few days so got nothing done on that front.
Goals for May
I’d be happy to get half of what I managed to get done in April – my book is coming along nicely but wow… still so much work! It’s looking more like a phone book everyday!
