CNCKing.com 2019
Looking back at the journey that CNCKing.com has taken over the more than 10 years since founding this site, I’m honestly surprised it’s still alive and kicking.
I started CNCKing.com in 2008 because I saw a need for people with CNC machines to have tested and fun files to cut in between their mostly boring jobs.
Things were not at all the way they are now, it was a very small community, the machines were incredibly expensive and most people running custom fab shops back then were jack of all trades innovators in their local community
Over the years, I saw this shift dramatically, and with that, I lost interest for various reasons and let the site just glide on it’s own from the momentum it had established years earlier.
It got to the point where I actually closed CNCKing.com for an entire year and a half before deciding to relaunch it about 6 months ago July 2018 showcasing really only my designs and that of my friend David – everybody else along with their headaches were gone.
The digital world has transformed greatly since then, I still see a need for fun custom laser, plasma, router and waterjet files that work and are tested and well documented but for now, I just plan letting CNCKing.com coast for the next year.
I have more and better equipment to make amazing project than I ever have but I’ve shifted focus to bring that personalized design through fabrication capabilities to people and businesses instead of just selling online digital files which is CNCKing.com’s reason for being.
I haven’t stopped designing nor have I stopped making animations or cut files, it’s quite the opposite, I do more of this then I ever did when I ran CNCKing.com but I have no interest in selling much less sharing those digital files as I use to.
I use to have a goal to release a new CNCKing.com book every year or two, I have enough content to easily make another book but my energy is best used elsewhere.
Enjoy CNCKing.com, for me, it’s a showcase as to what’s possible and I’m incredibly proud of all the work that went into making this site, all the models and the fantastic opportunities it has afforded me though the years.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the decades of self-teaching I did to build this site from scratch and I hope by extension that you gain some inspiration from my work.
Enjoy 2019, it will be a great year, hopefully I can find a new direction for this website, I just haven’t found the path forward yet but that can change anytime.
