CNC Laser Cut Kit & Shape Acrylic & Wood Material Choices

Thanks to the resources over at CNCROi.com, I’ve been able to offer a host of materials (this is only the beginning) for our projects and that bleeds through to the benefit of CNCKing.com customers too!

Please note we can get these materials at different thicknesses, so if you want a custom cut shape or kit done in 6 mm MDF or 12 mm clear acrylic, we can do that too! The rulers you see going behind the materials indicates transparency.

Let’s start with my favorite material, wood.

What can be done with wood?

Here are some projects I’ve made over at CNCROi.com showcasing what can be done in only 2D using wood – beyond all the stuff you already see at CNCKing.com.

Acrylics

Nice thing about acrylic is we can flame polish and cut it in one step, meaning there are no secondary processes. The advantage to this is a very nice finish and the incredible repeatability of CNC to boot!

What can be done with acrylic?

Going back to what can be done with acrylic beyond the material swaths I made above, here are a few samples of things I’ve made at CNCROi.com. The challenge with CNCROi.com is the vast majority of our work is NDA, meaning we can’t tell people or share pictures or video of the work we do… so I decided early on to only show capabilities on the site and not actual projects.

The power of on-demand manufacturing!

The incredible power of on-demand manufacturing of the orders CNCKing.com receives for its physical shapes and kits can’t be under-emphasized. It allows us to keep costs low as we aren’t holding any inventory that must clear the shelves.

The work has already been done by CNCROi.com to find reputable and consistent materials suppliers, infrastructure and machinery to efficiently cut and ship out projects has been established by almost a year of custom production for companies around the world and you also get the founder of CNCKing.com who can pretty much design anything that you don’t find on this site, 2D or 3D!

The overall philosophy I’ve had since 2008 with then WoodMarvels.com (since rebranded to CNCKing.com) was on-demand local manufacturing at a global scale. I think this is the first step towards establishing this goal, the only challenge left is getting material consistency across continents but that’s increasingly becoming easier to accomplish though for our cutting hubs in Australia, there will be slight material differences from what you see above.

The power of “un-scale”

Not having inventory presents us with a pretty awesome advantage, the kits and shapes on CNCKing.com can be cut to any scale you want, let’s say you want our fish pad coaster cut to fill an entire table. We can do that in any of the materials above (and then some) to match the exact diameter you need… need it 12 inches across or 90 inches, we can do it!

If you are making this huge, there are some advantages to adding more details to it as well, so you can either send us a file to cut for you or we can do it for you and cut to spec.
