CNC Backlog: 8 Upcoming Projects!
I spent the whole day CNC’ing today with my ShopBot Desktop and wanted to give an update… so far, there are 8 new projects tested and ready for launch – the hold-up? Well, the same as it has been for the last year… rendering bottleneck. Basically, I have one computer rendering 24/7 as it is the assembly animations and on top of that, a few Industrial 3D animations so while I wait for my computer to plow through all this work… I just keep on CNC’ing in the garage!
Now that I’m also video taping all the cutting and assembly processes… things take longer too as all of that has to be compressed in about 5 minutes (sometimes over an hour of footage!). These are part of the growing pains WoodMarvels.com is having, these are good problems to have so I’m not complaining, but at the same time, anxious to get them resolved! I’m still torn between either a dual-socket HP Z800 Workstation or a Dell Precision T5500 Tower Workstation – will see in a few months with the Intel refreshes what they update but going from the equivalent of 8 core processor to 32 (each double the speed of what I have now) will be a dream. I really want to get into stereoscopic rendering and no way I can do that with present hardware.
Here are the 3D assembly animations of upcoming CNC projects, those that have laser burns on the edges mean that the equivalent CNC rendering isn’t done yet… remember, in general, CNC models are 1.5-2x larger than their laser counterparts and although they may look similar, have been redesigned specifically to be CNC’ed.

What’s Next?
Well, I got another 50 x 6mm thick plywood sheets of 500x400mm so I’m going to start making some bigger models! I’m hoping to be able to launch all these CNC models within April… we’ll see if it comes true! Man… I really need a 3D workstation very soon! Luckily for me, the ShopBot just keeps on chugging away, the more wood you feed it, the happier it becomes!
