Attack Helicopter: New Product Release!

Attack Helicopter

Attack Helicopter with plenty of options!

A long while back, we released our first helicopter here at WoodMarvels.com, designed by Jerry… it was (and still is) a very cool design which I really enjoyed working on. David Newman saw it and polled some kids regarding a project we are jointly working on (details later) and based off their feedback, decided to build his very own helicopter… an attack helicopter!

This wooden attack helicopter is immediately available under Collaborations / David Newman at WoodMarvels.com in PDF, EPS, DXF and laser cut kit. It features spinning rotors and removable rockets (you can of course glue them in place if you wish). Believe it or not, the second half of this animation took a little under a week to render in full 720p HD but man… it was worth it! You got to watch it at full resolution on YouTube!

This animation features a host of new updates in rendering processes as well. It’s the first animation to be rendered using MentalRay… you can see clearly that this makes the model “pop-out” in a very positive fashion over my old renderer, Scanline. It’s also the first to use a new diffuse “ground” which I think better shows-off the model’s underside than just straight shade. Both of these come with a heavy rendering cost though. Rendering speed is a constant issue now that I moved to HD along with these mentioned changes but I’m so happy with the results it brings in both traffic and quality wise to the site… I can’t go back!

What’s next?

I have a few more collaborations to work on, as well as a few special projects I want to get started on.

Attack Helicopter: 3D Assembly Animation (720HD)

Original helicopter designed by Jerry

Available at WoodMarvels.com under Collaborations / AskJerry.

This is a great comparison not only in model build but also what is possible with a little imagination… both collaborations are really cool models! You can also see the HUGE difference going to HD has done for these animations!
