Announcing the launch of 3DMarvels.com

About a week ago, I came to the realization that the timing was finally right to launch a long-planned idea I had in the back of my mind. Selling 3D printer files!

Why develop a site dedicated to 3D printing files?

WoodMarvels.com is dedicated to wooden products that can be cut with CNC routers or laser printers… to a lesser extent, traditional woodcrafters. The site has grown in popularity and products since the very beginning and I really enjoy working on the site.

3DMarvels.com is dedicated to glass/recycled plastic/younameit products that can be printed using a 3D printer. Today I’ve launched the very first product available on the site with many more to come… and like WoodMarvels.com, I really enjoy working on this site!

Although the files for one (in my case) can be used for the other, they are like comparing apples and oranges and as such, best kept apart.

Why get into 3D printing anyways?

Though there are “desktop” versions of laser cutters (Rayjet from Trotec comes to mind) and CNC routers, the barriers to entry, mostly cost… will keep them a very niche item for years to come. The same is not true for 3D printers which are dropping dramatically in price and material costs. Within a few years, mark my words, you will be able to buy a 3D printer for the cost of a cheap inkjet printer with manufacturers making money from selling the “ink”. I honestly don’t see this happening anytime soon with lasers or CNCs.

3D printing also allows people to build a fully assembled product at home with moving parts without requiring any assembly! Check this out!

Why I’m UNIQUELY position to take advantage of this technology

I’ve been doing 3D since I was a teenager, that’s how each and every model at WoodMarvels.com is built and animated! I understand online marketing, have partnerships, design experience and passion for anything 3D really.

How will 3DMarvels.com affect WoodMarvels.com?

Rendering times might be slowed down slightly, as I’m producing animations for two sites vs one but the process is very different. I actually see this as a HUGE opportunity for WoodMarvels.com, as I can transition all my current 3D files to be printed using a 3D printer! This is a massive leap in growing both sites… you will soon be able to, for instance, purchase David’s amazing Classic Biplane in wood or any other material you can imagine. Want a glass biplane? No problem… it can be 3D printed. The boundaries of what’s possible are truly boundless!

There is also a lot less work involved with 3DMarvels.com than WoodMarvels.com, there is no “assembly” animation needing to be produced, nor PDF, EPS or DXF file conversion. I just need to animate what I’ve got and launch!

The Bottom Line

WoodMarvels.com grew from one product to hundreds… 3DMarvels.com will do the same!
