AirShark: New CNC Laser Cutting Project Launch!

Brian, our newest designer here on CNCKing.com has a great laser cutting project that’s sure to get a lot of kids excited about rolling toys – his cool AirShark!

This 26 piece model has dimensions using 3mm (1/8 inch) thick wood of L: 290 W: 270 H: 85 (mm) or L: 11-27⁄64 W: 10-5⁄8 H: 3-11⁄32 (in) and can be found right now in EPS, PDF, DXF and AI file formats under Collaborations / Laser Cutter / Lawrence.

What I really like about his designs is how he’s managed to make something so visually stimulating with so few pieces – the huge advantage of laser cutters is you do create automatic contrast between surfaces and edges that no other CNC machine can do as well. This adds a lot to a model regardless of the material you use – if you cut this in Acrylic or MDF, that contrast is still there which is neat!

Once I get my ShopBot up and running in a few weeks, I really want to make a CNC table router version of this model – it’s just asking for it! I’d make it about double the scale as cutting costs are less relative to lasers for any given project but you won’t have that cool contrast. We’ll see how it goes! Until then, do check this project out… it really made me think of the highly creative Elephant pusher on the site as well designed by Lidija which you can find in Collaborations / Laser Cutter / Miklavcic.
