1911 Ford Model T Torpedo Runabout: New Project Release!
ShopBot Tools CNC routers did an amazing cutting job on my 1911 Ford Model T Torpedo Runabout design!
One of my goals for WoodMarvels.com this year was to form partnerships with some well known manufacturers. In this case, it’s ShopBot Tools, a CNC router manufacturer based in the United States with the result being this amazing looking 1911 Ford Model T Torpedo Runabout which I designed but they distributed at the very recent 2010 Detroit Maker Faire (I’ll post press clippings as they are sent to me).
In this case, it was being held at the Henry Ford Museum and ShopBot Tools and their busy CNC routing tables needed something to do while the rest of the staff were busy handling the crowds. Here is what Bill had to say:
Hey Jon,
The Model T models have been a big hit and we’ve cut a half dozen or so. Yesterday we would raffle one off every couple of hours and we gave some away to a few kids that were particularly interested in the process. We have one that we’ve assembled and painted flat black that we’re giving to the Ford Museum today!

When I got this message, I was extremely happy… it really made my day! I then got some pictures and additional info of how everything went (read 2010 Detroit Camp Maker Faire) and you can see an action shot of the wooden Model T getting cut here.
So, without further adieu, you can now purchase this model right now in DXF format to cut on your very own CNC router, EPS on your own laser cutter or PDF for traditional wood cutters. The physical can also be shipped right to your door if you have neither the tools or the space for one of these machines.

Future Prospects
I hope to have the opportunity to work with ShopBot Tools again, this was a very fun project for me, and there are many more coming in the following months as well… if you look closely at this 3D assembly animation, you can see one such model which I’ll be releasing at the end of September for a laser cutter manufacturer’s trade show.
