Repurposed Halloween Coffin Scraps

On some CNCKing.com projects, I end-up with some interesting scrap pieces that I tend to keep without any purpose in mind other than lighting the bond fire out back (if it’s wood) but in this case, a few scraps from a recent Halloween Serving Coffin projects I did a little while back found its way to a teacher’s desk that wanted to use them for awards for the kids. I laser engraved them here at CNCROi.com using our Trotec Speedy 400 flexx’s CO2 laser and it did a wonderful job as usual!

Before we proceed, let’s take a look at the original projects video.

So after this project was all said and done, here are the four “extra pieces” I had left over from the coffin inserts after they were engraved.

I wanted to get this all done in one shot, so aligning them perfectly was pretty easy as they all had a flat surface on the top and identical so my drawings matched what was on the bed regardless of where I put them. I did put it right over the strongest extraction point, I wanted to ENGRAVE into this plywood, not just darken it by burning the top surface.

So after a quick calibration – I’ve cut LOTS of projects with this wood so all my settings were already established – I pressed the button and let the CO2 laser vaporise about a mm deep. Generally this produces smoke but with a powerful extraction and gas kit going, it didn’t have a chance of getting stuck on the surface.

Our Austrian CNC laser is so fast, taking a photograph of the head while in production is just about impossible, those blurs of red are the head! If you want true acceleration, don’t get a Ferrari, get a Trotec!

The results look great… I have yet to find a great way to photograph anything with depth and proper lighting, they seem a little washed-out in the image below but they are sharp and very easy to read.

Oh yeah, here’s the video of the whole thing! If you are looking for a CNC laser and design firm to make some cool stuff for you, regardless of material, look no further than CNCROi.com!
